Maren Holt is a Danish watercolourist whose work is shaped by long periods of travel through southern Europe. Working outdoors and in small formats, she builds images from close observation — the colour of rendered walls in afternoon light, reflections in harbour water, the compressed perspective of a hill town seen from the road below.

Her practice is organised in series: sustained bodies of work made by returning to the same places across seasons and years. A series may take three summers to finish; some are never finished, only paused. The paintings are made on location and rarely touched afterwards — what the day gave is what remains.

Her work has been exhibited in Copenhagen, Edinburgh and Marseille, and is held in private collections across Europe. She works from Copenhagen and is usually somewhere else.
